Yes, there really are experts in
the family arena. Expertise is defined by some simply as personal
experience, hence all the magazines and sites that coax consumer spending by
alluding that parents are the true experts. Sure, we're impressed by the awesome
tasks of creating a family, but is it really possible to claim expertise in a
field as wide as "family" only because you happen to be in the thick
of your own? We all live in dwellings of some kind — does that mean we'd know
how to build one?
We'd like to take the definition
of expertise a few steps further and add to the blueprint:
- in-depth, ongoing, up-to-date study
- regular and current practice, both professional and personal
- dedication to broadcasting one's knowledge for the benefit of others

| Claudine Jalajas is
a noted technical communications consultant in the New York Metro area, having
made guest appearances on cable television, radio, and internet cybercasts and
being interviewed for articles on technology in Newsday, Long Island Business
News, The New York Times, and Working Woman magazine. In addition to leading the
Long Island Chapter of Webgrrls International, Jalajas has been active with the
Long Island Women's Network, National Association of Women Business Owners, and
the Society of Technical Communications. Her business, InkFree Media, provides electronic communication services to companies across the United States and globally.

Randine Lewis, a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, is the founder of Eastern Harmony Clinic. She currently sees patients through The Fertile Soul Retreats, where patients receive diagnostic evaluation and treatment for fertility enhancement with Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Dr. Lewis has been a medical expert on HowToMakeAFamily.com and ePregnancy.com, and has appeared on ABC Eyewitness News, NBC HealthBeat; CBS Up Close; PBS Weekday and Weeknight, all featuring her successes treating infertility with Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Mark Perloe is an innovator in the use of Internet
communication for educating patients via his groundbreaking site, IVF.com. Perloe is director of reproductive
endocrinology, infertility
and in vitro fertilization at Atlanta Medical Center and Medical Director at
Georgia Reproductive Specialists, and is noted for the individualized and
in-depth attention he gives to his patients in their efforts to conceive.
In addition to being board certified, Perloe is clinical assistant
professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Georgia, has
been published in medical journals including Obstetrics & Gynecology,
Southern Medical Journal and the International Journal of Obstetrics
and Gynecology, is co-author of Miracle Babies & Other Happy Endings for Couples With Fertility Problems ,
and is managing editor of the Endozone, an online medical journal
for physicians on endometriosis.
